ESRI ArcGIS Software Installation

Installing ESRI ArcGIS 10.2.2 on Campus Computer

Georgia College & State University participates in the University System of Georgia ESRI site license for ArcGIS 10.2.2, provided by the Information Technology Outreach Services at the University of Georgia, and funded by the GC Student Technology Fee. ArcGIS is installed in the Information Technology Center room 124 (Library lower floor), and in the instructional labs in Arts & Sciences (254 & 255).

The campus contact for the site license is Dr. Doug Oetter. If you would like ArcGIS installed on your GC computer, contact SERVE to make a work order request.  If you already have administrative privileges to your computer, the following installation guides will help:

Faculty/Graduate on Campus Computer

Installing ESRI ArcGIS on your campus computer involves three steps- Downloading the software to your hard drive, Installing and authorizing the software, and Updating the software and installing the optional tutorial data:

1- Download Software

  • The software you need can be obtained in two ways. It can be copied from the GIS Share Drive (X:\_DATA\Software) or downloaded directly from ESRI:
  • Copy the software folder "ArcGIS_Desktop_1022_140090" (4.79 Gb) from X:\_DATA\Software to your computer; save it on the desktop or on the C: drive.
  • Or, Download the software directly from the ESRI 60-day Trial Download Site.

2- Install ArcGIS 10.2 Desktop

  • You must be logged in to the GCSU Domain using your Username
  • Double-click the "ESRI.exe" file inside the root directory to launch the Quick Start Guide
  • Click ArcGIS Desktop / Setup to launch the installer.
  • Choose "Complete", with Python2.7
  • At the end of installation, the software will launch the ArcGIS Administrator
  • Set the Software Product = ArcInfo (Concurrent Use)
  • DO NOT set the License Manager information; you will do that later

3- Set License Manager

Once the software has been installed, you may launch ArcGIS/ArcGIS Administrator to set the licensing information

  • Select 'Desktop' in the table of contents
  • Select 'Change...' button in the center of the dialog box
  • Type in the IP address for the license server: 168.16.211.177

4- Install Optional Tutorial Data

If you would like to have the Tutorial Data (1.70 Gb) on your computer, continue with the following optional steps:

  • Copy the software folder "ArcGIS_Desktop_Tutorial_Data_101_129030" from X:\_DATA\Software to your computer; save it on the desktop or on the C: drive.
  • Double-click "setup.exe" to launch the installation.
  • Choose "Complete"
  • The tutorial data will install itself into your C:\arcgis folder, where you can access it directly.

Launch ArcGIS through Start/Programs/ArcGIS/ArcMap.

 

Faculty/Graduate/Student on personal computer

Installing ESRI ArcGIS on your personal computer involves three steps- Downloading the software to your hard drive, Installing and authorizing the software, and Updating the software and installing the optional tutorial data:

1- Download Software

  • The software you need can be obtained in two ways. It can be copied from the GIS Share Drive (X:\_DATA\Software) or downloaded directly from ESRI:
  • Copy the software folder "ArcGIS_Desktop_1022_140090" (4.79 Gb) from X:\_DATA\Software to your computer; save it on the desktop or on the C: drive.
  • Or, Download the software directly from the ESRI 60-day Trial Download Site.

2- Obtain and Register Authorization Code

  • Request a student evaluation authorization code by writing a detailed email to the ESRI site license administrator (doug.oetter@gcsu.edu) describing exactly why you want the software on your personal computer (e.g., to work on a research project, to do class homework, to help out a professor, etc.).
  • The administrator will send you a 12-character code, which you must register with ESRI before installing the software
  • Visit http://esri.com/EducationEdition
  • Log in using your ESRI Global Account if you have one, or create a new account, if necessary.
  • Please provide ESRI with the necessary information, and include your affiliation with Georgia College
  • Enter the authorization code and click submit

3- Install ArcGIS 10.2 Desktop

  • The software cannot be installed on a computer that has a version of ArcGIS Desktop prior to 10.1 installed; if necessary, uninstall previous versions of ArcGIS Desktop or Server. It's OK if the computer has ArcGIS Explorer installed.
  • If necessary, install the Microsoft .NET Framework (version 3.5 Service Pack 1 or higher).
  • Double-click the "ESRI.exe" file inside the root directory to launch the Quick Start Guide
  • Click ArcGIS Desktop / Setup to launch the installer.
  • Choose "Complete", with Python2.7
  • At the end of installation, the software will launch the ArcGIS Administrator
    • Select a product = ArcInfo (Single Use)
    • I have installed my software and need to authorize it
    • Authorize with ESRI now using the Internet
    • Complete all (*) fields
    • Organization = "Georgia College & State University"
    • Your organization = "Education-Staff/Faculty" or "Education/Student"
    • Your industry = "Higher Education" Yourself = "Educator" or "Student"
    • Obtain your Authorization code from the  ESRI Campus Site License Administrator (doug.oetter@gcsu.edu)
    • Paste or write in your Authorization Number (EVA---------)
    • OK

4- Install Optional Tutorial Data

If you would like to have the Tutorial Data (1.70 Gb) on your computer, continue with the following optional steps:

  • Copy the software folder "ArcGIS_Desktop_Tutorial_Data_101_129030" from X:\_DATA\Software to your computer; save it on the desktop or on the C: drive.

Launch ArcGIS through Start/Programs/ArcGIS/ArcMap.

Launch ArcGIS through Start/Programs/ArcGIS/ArcMap.  Support for the ArcGIS Desktop Education Edition is available at esri.com/evalhelp/.

Congratulations!  You are now running the latest industry standard Geographic Information System software available!!

ERDAS Imagine Software Installation

Installing ERDAS Imagine on Campus Computer

GC also participates in the University System of Georgia's Leica GHEAK site license.  Currently we have 25 licenses of ERDAS Imagine available across campus.  This software is used to display, process, and analyze raster images such as aerial photography, digital orthophoto quadrangles, and satellite imagery.  The software is installed in the Information Technology Center and the Arts & Sciences instruction lab.  If you would like a copy of Imagine installed on your computer, please contact SERVE.
